Defending bases is something you will have to do a LOT in this game. But why is it so important to defend? First of all, by successfully defending your base, or the base of a teammate, you are protecting resources. Second, in wars, you want to make sure the enemy doesn’t get 5 flames on the base they attack. This way your team stands a better chance of winning that war. So yes, defending is a thing. But how do you defend successfully? We’ll show you in this post.
The Basics of defending
So how does it work? It starts by a banner popping up on the top of your screen. “Defend your teammate” or “Defend yourself”. When you join the defense you will see a bar with 5 orange dots on the left side of your screen. They represent the number of supershots you have to defend the base. A supershot activates a tower’s special attack. To activate a supershot, simply tap a tower of your choice.
There are items that help you defend a base. You can see them on the left side of your screen: A shield for protection, a hammer for repairs and a sword for attacking. To use one of these items, hold and drag it to the area you want to protect/repair/boost.
When the attacking dragon goes down thanks to your defense, well done! You will receive a small prize and supershots will be filled up to take down the next dragon. Take out 20 enemy dragons to unlock the water dragon in the shrine!
How to successfully defend
There are 5 things to keep in mind while defending. Well, actually four, but we can’t stress building a good base enough, so we will start with that 😉
1: Build a defendable base
This is incredibly important. When building your own base, carefully think about what you’re doing. Long bases are generally easier to defeat and harder to defend. So keep it short and focus on a kill zone. You can find our elaborate base building guide HERE!
2: Know what each tower does
When defending, it’s good to know what each tower does exactly. We have a handy guide for that too!
3: Find the strongest part of the base
First of all, have a quick look at the base to see where it’s strength is. Most people will have a kill zone. The kill zone is usually a zone with the highest level towers, doing a great deal of damage to the attacking dragon. Basically, that’s where you want to spend your supershots.
4: Determine the attacking dragons weaknesses
Check the abilities of the dragon. If it has archer resist, it’s no use to waste your supershots on archers, obviously. Does the dragon only have blue spells? Protect blue mages to block the spells! It all comes down to rational thinking… But do it fast!
5: Use remaining supershots immediately after a dragon goes down
IF you have any supershots left, use them before the attacker picked a new dragon. As soon as the next dragon is in the air, your supershot bar will be refilled to full.
There you go, these are our best tips for successfully defending your teammates base or your own. Please keep in mind that these are guidelines. When you get attacked by a player waaaay bigger than you, it will be hard to protect yourself. But by following these guidelines, you will at least stand a chance!
